O God,
worshipped from of old,
this candle we light
is for faithful Sarah and Abraham.
We continue the journey they began:
their faith brought forth our own,
Give us faith and hope in this season of waiting.
O God,
proclaimed from of old
this candle we light
is for the prophets
who fortold your Kingdom of peace.
We long for days when wars will cease,
and peace will dawn.
Give us peace and hope in this season of waiting
O God,
heralded in desert places,
this candle we light
is for John the Baptist,
who made straight the way for the coming of your Son.waiting and
We too wait for you:
We too look for you.
Keep us looking and seeking in this season of waiting
O God,
whose birth draws nearwaiting and
this candle we light
is for Mary
whose courage and boldness brought our Saviour to birth.
We too need courage
to do what you ask of us.
Give us courage and boldness in this season of waiting.
O God,
born among us today
this candle we light
is for the Christchild
tiny and fragile
yet embracing all that is.
We come to the place of your birth;
in wonder and in joy
Bless us and fill us with your love, this Christmas.
