Heavenly Father,

we gather tonight to give thanks 

for the birth of your Son, Jesus Christ.

We thank you for this wonderful gift;

that you came to be with us,

came to be one of us,

that you embrace the world with your love,

that you shine in the darkness,

and that the darkness will never be able to extinguish

the light of your love.

We pray for all who are sad tonight:

for those who will spend Christmas alone

or away from loved ones;

for those who are lonely;

for people who are ill

and for those who worry about them:

for loved ones who have died

and for all who mourn;

por those with no homes

and those who will have their Christmas dinner from the foodbank.

Be with us this Christmas, Lord Jesus,

And give us hope when life is hard.

We give thanks for the happy things of Christmasl;

for the time spent with loved ones,

for presents and surprises,

for good food and festive drinks;

for warm homes,

for the joy we share,

and for the presence of Jesus –

that you came to be with us,

to share our lives

and to bring peace on earth.
