Intercessions for Christmas Morning

God with us,

we give thanks this Christmas morning

that you have come to share our lives,

that you are with us in joy and sorrow,

when everything is well

and when everything has gone wrong.

We thank you that you came as a child:

you know the struggles of growing and learning:

you know sadness and joy,

boredom and excitement,

despair and hope.

You share our human experience

from the beginning to the end:

There is nothing about us which you don’t understand:

and your surround us with your great love,

all our days.

We pray for those for whom today will be a struggle;

for those who will spend Christmas away from family and friends

and who feel sad and lonely:

for those who will spend Christmas in hospital:

for all who are working today:

for all for whom this time of year is hard:

for all who are bereaved;

for people living in poverty;

for those who have left their homes

because of war and violence;

for refugees and all in danger.

Draw near, Lord Jesus:

Surround all these with your love.

And we give thanks

for your many blessings:

for our families and friends;

for our community here at church;

for the faith we share;

for Christmas food and festive drinks;

for presents and the love they convey.

In the midst of our celebrations

may we not forget you –

the reason for our celebrations

the source of all our joy and hope.

Amen
