Intercessions for the First Sunday of Lent 2022

God of peace and justice,

We pray for the people of Ukraine today.

We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.

We pray for those who fear for tomorrow,

that your Spirit of comfort will draw near to them.

We pray for those with power over war or peace,

for wisdom, discernment and compassion

to guide their decisions.

Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,

That you would hold and protect them.

We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. (From Archbishops of Canterbury and York)

We pray for our world:

Humanity seems to be so lost and helpless;

We know that many things are wrong,

but we feel helpless to change anything.

Show us how to walk in your ways;

how to be faithful;

how to live according to your word.

Save us, O God, from selfishness,

greed, violence, anger, and hate.

We pray for your church,

That it will be a wilderness as well as an oasis;

a place where people can struggle,

make difficult choices, and decide what is right.

Give us courage to accompany those who are conflicted,

and those whose lives are hard.

Let us also be an oasis;

a place of refuge, comfort and refreshment.

Today we pray for all who are conflicted;

those who wrestle with conscience;

for those who have to choose between the lesser of two evils;

for those for whom the battle is lost,

who will serve only themselves.

We pray for all who are in pain,

all who are lost,

all who feel God is far away.

that you voice will be heard over noise

and in the silence,

calling us always to love, to serve, be alongside your children in their need.

And we give you thanks

For signs of life and hope around us:

the first daffodils,

the cry of babies and the voices of children

tiny unfurling leaves,

friendship, laughter, love,

and for the direction you give

so that we may live life the best we canl,

even in hard times. Amen
